One of the things I love most about vacation is planning. Scouring the Internet for travel information, collecting travel brochures, and asking other people about their experiances are all parts of vacation planning that I enjoy.
However, I try to keep in mind that no matter how well planned, well thought out, and organized I am.. Vacation is always a leap of faith and a lesson in flexibility. It is so easy to get caught up in making the perfect experience that we can easily loose sight of the real reason we vacation.
For me, vacation is the essence of stepping out of our comfort zones and living life in a new way. It is about revealing to children new cultures, lifestyles, and experiences. It is chance to see God's creations in a new light. It is a great way to bond with my children and often opens doors for conversations we would not normally have.
Vacation planning is more than the simple act of prepration but is also the anticipation of the next experience. I always try to get each of the kids in on the planning in some form or another. We learn about the history of the area we will visit, study maps, and view websites of attractions and hotels. This builds knowledge, anticipation, and gives them ownership of the vacation.
